Kaputa- 9th September,2025
The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has officially completed and handed over the 16.3- kilometer stretch of the Kaungo Road in Kaputa District.
The project, which cost K8.3 million, involved thorough grading and compacting of the road
base. It was undertaken by ZNS in collaboration with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and the Road Development Agency (RDA).
Speaking during the handover, Northern Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Bernard Mpundu said the completion of the road will greatly benefit local residents, particularly in transporting agricultural produce.
He recalled that travel between Nsama and Kaputa districts used to take many hours due to the road’s previously deplorable state.
Mr. Mpundu also reiterated President Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to ensure reasonable pricing, quality, and timely completion of all government projects.
He emphasized that more roads in Kaputa District would be opened up in the near future.
“I want to call upon all contractors in the province to emulate what the Zambia National Service has done. The money being spent is taxpayers’ money, and people want to see quality works for their money,” Mr. Mpundu said.
And ZNS Regional Commander Brigadier General Tyson Nyirenda noted that the successful completion of the road is a significant development, especially as Chief Mukupa Katandula’s chiefdom had previously been completely cut off due to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Road Development Agency (RDA) Regional Manager Engineer Benny Kashimoto also commended the collaboration and pledged continued support for infrastructure development in the province.
