Participating banks under the Sustainable Agriculture Financing Facility (SAFF) have so far disbursed a total of Sixty-Two Million, Four Hundred and Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fourteen Kwacha, Sixteen Ngwee (K62,409,714.16) to 1,176 farmers in Northern Province.
Of the total beneficiaries, 822 are male, while 354 are female.
Under the SAFF, the Ministry of Agriculture plays a key role in conducting the initial assessment to verify that applicants are genuine farmers before their applications are forwarded to participating banks. The banks then carry out their own due diligence and internal assessment before disbursing loans.
The SAFF Program is currently supporting farmers in acquiring irrigation equipment, encouraging investment in tools that enhance crop productivity. Farmers are also being urged to embrace mechanized farming by purchasing essential implements.
The facility provides loans ranging from K50,000 to K500,000, with a repayment period of 36 months, allowing farmers to repay under flexible terms.
SAFF is a market-driven initiative aimed at improving access to affordable financing for small and medium-scale farmers, who often face challenges in securing funding for agricultural investments.
