First Lady, Mrs. Mutinta Hichilema, has donated various essential items-including 300 bags of 25kg mealie meal to Kasama General Hospital.
Other items donated include 50 mattresses, 300 bags of 10kg mealie meal, 100 bales of sugar,100 cases of 1×12 bottles of cooking oil,100 bags of 10kg rice, 100 boxes of liquid chlorine,100 bags of 5kg washing powder, boxes of face masks and boxes of hand sanitizers
In her remarks, the First Lady emphasized that healing goes beyond medicine it also requires nourishment, hygiene, and above all, compassion.
She described the donation as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Kasama and a demonstration of support for the dedicated health workers who continue to serve selflessly.
Mrs. Hichilema underscored the importance of prioritizing health infrastructure, resources, and personnel, especially in regions like Kasama where the needs are significant, and the potential impact is even greater.
“Kasama General Hospital is not just a medical facility, it is a beacon of hope, a lifeline for thousands of families, and a testament to the strength and resilience of the community,” she said.
The speech was delivered on her behalf by the Minister’s Spouses Association Chairperson, Dr. Grace Mutati.
Meanwhile, Northern Province Minister, Hon. Leonard Mbao (MP), in a speech read on his behalf by Kasama District Commissioner Annie Paul, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her selfless gesture.
He noted that the donation would have a lasting impact on many lives within the community.
“The donated items will contribute significantly to the hospital’s daily operations, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. This act of kindness reflects the First Lady’s commitment to the welfare of our communities, particularly the most vulnerable,” he said.
Kasama General Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Satchmo Shyamayanda, also expressed appreciation, stating that the donation will greatly enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services across the province.
