MBALA, Northern Province – Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bernard Mpundu, has strongly cautioned health workers in the region against engaging in the illegal practice of stealing drugs.
Speaking at the official opening of the Provincial Integrated Review meeting held in Mbala district, Mr. Mpundu emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in the health sector.
The Permanent Secretary condemned the disturbing trend of health workers taking drugs from public health centers to private clinics and pharmacies.
He firmly stated that this practice must cease immediately, as it compromises the quality of healthcare provided to the public and undermines the trust placed in health institutions.
“We cannot and will not allow this behavior to continue. The well-being of our people is at the heart of our healthcare system, and any breach of trust will be met with swift action,” said Mr. Mpundu.
Mr. Mpundu further warned that any health worker found engaging in this illegal activity would face strict disciplinary action.
“Those who violate the law and the ethics of their profession will be held accountable,” he added.
The Provincial Integrated Review meeting serves as a platform to assess the health sector’s progress and identify key areas for improvement. The event brings together health professionals, donors and stakeholders from across the province to discuss best practices and strategies for achieving better health outcomes for the people of Northern Province.
Meanwhile, Provincial Health Director Professor Earnest Mutale has also highlighted the importance of accountability and transparency in the healthcare system.
