The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services in Northern Province is key in providing and facilitating equitable social protection services to vulnerable people in communities in order to contribute to sustainable human development and fight poverty.
The Ministry, through the Department of Social Welfare, is among other programmes implementing social cash transfer, where it supports vulnerable communities with funds to reduce intergenerational transfer of poverty.
Its sister department, community development, is also implementing programmes such as the Food Security Pack (FSP), which supports the vulnerable by giving them input to improve household food security and fight hunger.
The departments recently conducted a joint monitoring activity to check the impact these programmes are having on communities and also sensitise them on other programmes government plans to implement to help the vulnerable.
The monitoring team was led by Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu and visited selected districts in the province.
