Mbala-The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Mbala District has procured over 52,400 by 50-kg bags of white maize in the district .
The maize has been purchased in the last three week when the exercise commenced in the district.
FRA Mbala District Manager Wilared Changwe confirmed this to ZANIS in Mbala today.
Mr Changwe said many small-scale farmers in the district are willing to take their maize to sell to the agency.
Mr. Changwe praised farmers for their good response in taking their maize to the agency satellite depot.
He said this will help to contribute to the national food security programme in the country.
And one of the farmers from Kawama East Camp, Milliam Namukulwa, said it is important for small-scale farmers to take their maize to sell to the FRA.
She said selling their maize to FRA is not only the best way to make money but will also contribute to the country’s food security.
Ms Mukulwa has since encouraged other farmers to take their maize to sell at the various FRA depots in the district and across the country
