Government procures modern X Ray Machine for Luwingu District Hospital using CDF

Luwingu,—Government has procured a modern X-ray machine for Luwingu district hospital worth K1.2 million using funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Luwingu Town Council Secretary Benson Malama told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview in Luwingu district that a digital X-ray machine has since been installed.

Mr. Malama said the procurement of the modern x-ray machine comes after the government last year procured a mortuary unit that was installed at the hospital.

He said the new X-ray machine will help to decongest Kasama General Hospital, where patients from Luwingu district have always been referred.

He said this helps patients, especially youths falling off motorcycles and other road traffic accidents involving vehicles, as well as tuberculosis patients and other diseases that demand X-ray services.

Mr. Malama said the procurement of an X-ray printing machine, a power stabiliser, and uninterrupted power supply is on course, and they will be delivered to the district hospital as soon as possible.

Mr. Malama said the new facility has already been procured, delivered, and installed at the district hospital, waiting for the printing machine, which will be delivered soon.

He said CDF is slowly improving the status of Luwingu district, adding that the government will soon commission 16 CDF projects in the district.

Meanwhile, the procurement of a mortuary unit at the district hospital has helped to address some of the challenges residents were going through to mourn their deceased loved ones.

Residents were forced to bury the deceased relatives on the same day one died.

Imagine residents were forced to burry deceased relatives within a day due to the huge expense involved in transporting the dead to and from Kasama, now everything will be on the table,” he said.

He explained that the people were depending on the mortuary located in Kasama, which is about 165 km from Luwingu and described the situation as sad.

Both the X-ray machine and mortuary unit will go a long way in alleviating some of the concerns the district has been passing through in recent years,” he lamented.

He paid tribute to the government for increasing CDF from k1.6 million to about K30 million, saying the gesture will go a long way in improving government infrastructure and machinery in remote areas.
