Kasama
Speaking during the Zambia at 60 anniversary preparatory meeting in Kasama, Ms Phiri said the province is endowed with so many tourism sites that need to be marketed for them to be exploited and contribute to national development.
She bemoaned that many tourism sites in the province have gone unnoticed due to a lack of marketing.
She said government has rehabilitated Kasama Airport, which will help open up the tourism potential that the province is blessed with.
She said the airport should be utilised for tourism development in order to create revenue for the province and the country at large.
“We have a task as the Northern Circuit to ensure we showcase tourism potential in our province. We need to work as a team to ensure this is done. Northern has a lot of tourism sites that people can talk about; Kasaba Bay not being tapped into can create a very serious tourism place for both local and foreign tourists” she said.
Ms Phiri also called on the church to continue working in collaboration with the government.
She reaffirmed the government’s partnership with the church in fostering development, stating that the government cannot function without the body of Christ.
The deputy permanent secretary added that as Zambia celebrates the diamond jubilee of her birth, it is also important to reflect on and celebrate the greatness and goodness that the Lord has shown to the country.
“As we celebrate 60 years, we should also celebrate the greatness and goodness of the Lord in our lives. The declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation has posed us in a better way, and Zambia at 60, we cannot forget to talk about God’s ways of doing things in our lives and for blessing the country abundantly not only with natural resources but also with good leadership.” She explained.
And National Heritage Conservation Commission Acting Regional Director, Brutus Simakole, has commended the government for its efforts to promote tourism in the Northern Circuit.
Mr Simakole mentioned issues such as the development of the airport, among others, as things that will help open up tourism.
Meanwhile, Seventh Day Adventist Church North Zambia Field President Samuel Sinyangwe assured government of the church’s support to ensure the successful holding of the anniversary.
Mr Sinyangwe has since encouraged everyone involved in the preparations to work together to accomplish a memorable event.
