Lunte,–Government has approved the layout plan for the Lunte Central Business District.
Lunte Town Council Secretary, Jonathan Mwanza says the plan, which was approved by the provincial administration, signifies the start of development for the district.
He said more activities will start to be implemented in preparation for the development of the district.
“The completion of the layout plan also gives us a clear depiction of the Lunte we want.” He said.
Mr Mwanza also disclosed that the District Intergrated Development Plan (IDP) has been completed and approved by the Northern Province Planning Authority.
“The stage at which we are now is that we have submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for final approval by the minister.” Said Mr Mwanza.
He further stated that the local authority will then be required to prepare an investment plan after approval by the ministry and commence the mobilization of funds.
“Then the implementation will begin, and with that, come 2025, we should see increased development activities and programs in relation to the IDP.” He said.
Mr Mwanza said this in an interview with ZANIS in Lunte today.
And Lunte District Commissioner Joseph Chilando said the approval of the layout plan for the district is a step in the right direction.
Mr Chilando said the approval of the plan will facilitate development in the district.
“The people of Lunte are very happy with the development and are thankful to the president as they have delivered one of the campaign promises.” He said.
Mr Chilando added that stakeholders sat and approved the layout plan and is hopeful that by July, the council will begin demarcation of land.
“A letter has already been drafted to apply for land development funds from the Ministry of Land, and by next year things will be happening in this new district.” Said Mr Chilando.
Lunte was given a district status in 2017.
