Kasama—Goverment has implored the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) and ZESCO to enhance consumer awareness activities on the current load shedding.
Northern Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Mpundu says the provincial administration has noted with concern complaints from the public regarding the failure by the power utility company to stick to the load-shedding schedule.
Mr Mpundu states that this is affecting the running of businesses among the business community as well as the general citizenry.
He called on Zesco to ensure that it follows the load-shedding schedule without inconveniencing the public.
Mr Mpundu made the remarks during the 2024 ERB Northern Region Media Breakfast meeting in Kasama District.
The meeting attracted participants from both public and private media houses drawn from Northern and Muchinga provinces.
The Permanent Secretary however, pledged his office’s support to protecting Zesco’s installations during this period of load shedding.
Speaking earlier, ERB Northern Region Senior Manager, Davies Mupenda, reiterated ERB’s commitment to transparency, collaborations and open dialogue with the media in ensuring that the public is informed on developments taking place in the energy sector.
Mr Mupenda said it is for this reason that ERB called for a media engagement meeting in an effort to build capacity in reporting on energy-related matters among the media fraternity.
