Kasama—Parents with pupils at John Chikula Primary School in Lusenga Ward of Lukashya Constituency in Kasama District have thanked government for coming to the aid of the school by putting up a 1 by 3 classroom block at the school where pupils have been learning under trees since 2019.
Patricia Chanda a patent, says the lack of infrastructure at the school is hampering the delivery of quality education to pupils. Speaking in an interview with a ZANIS crew that visited the school, Ms Chanda said it has been a challenge for children to attend lessons at the school, especially during the rainy season.

Ms Chanda explained that once the 1 by 3 classroom block, which has reached 95 percent completion, is commissioned, it will improve the quality of education at the school.
“Our children have been learning under trees for close to 4 years due to the lack of classrooms at the school; hence, the construction of this 1 by 3 block will change the learning environment here, thereby improving the quality of education,” she said.
Speaking earlier, Mike Musonda, a teacher, disclosed that a lack of school infrastructure at the school discouraged some pupils from attending lessons. Mr Musonda noted that the teaching environment is not conducive to enable them to deliver quality education.
He added that it has been difficult to teach, especially during the rainy season, Mr Musonda further disclosed that it is difficult to teach pupils outside as they lack concentration.
“The construction of this one-by-three classroom by government using CDF is timely, looking at the teaching environment that we have been using before. This will also enable a lot of children to attend school because they have been shunning lessons due to a lack of school infrastructure,” said Mr Musonda.
He has since thanked the government for making CDF a reality.
And some pupils who were found learning under the tree have thanked the government for coming to the aid of the school. Rabbecca Mumba, a pupil, noted that the construction of the classroom block will alleviate the challenges they have been facing in accessing education.
Mumba said the gesture could not have come at a better time than now.
She said pupils at the school used to face challenges especially during the rainy season where classes used to be interrupted. Another pupil, Steven Chongo, has thanked government for the gesture, saying that it will encourage them to attend school.
“We are very happy that government has constructed this one-by-three classroom block because where we have been learning was not conducive,” they added.
The school is being done using the 2022 CDF allocation at a cost of over K880,000.
