Government to Complete All Works on Stalled Projects in Nsama District
By Geoffrey Phiri
Government has promised to complete all the stalled public infrastructure in Nsama District of Northern Province.
Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, explained that the contracts for these projects were initially terminated, but government has re-advertised them for work to commence.
He said government is committed to seeing the completion of the infrastructure to facilitate the quality delivery of public services.
He said priority will, however, be given to housing units so that they are completed, and people start occupying them.
He said works on the police housing units is however expected to be completed by second quarter of this year.
Mr Mpundu said this when he held a stakeholder meeting to explain the status of the stalled projects which includes the district administration block, boarding secondary school, police station, and housing units.

Meanwhile, the permanent secretary who toured the stalled projects said there is a need for civil servants to also move into the houses that are roofed as they wait for contractors to avoid deterioration and vandalism of the structures.
The Permanent Secretary has further disclosed that the government has already secured funds for the completion of Nsama Boarding Secondary School.
He said the works for the boarding secondary school are expected to commence next year, stating that government is now negotiating with the contractor.
And Nsama District Commissioner, Steward Katele, has commended government for its commitment to developing the district.
Mr. Katele said that government has brought a number of developments to the district.
He expressed that Nsama District will never be the same once government delivers all the projects under construction.
And Nsama Town Council Chairperson, David Siame, praised government for re-advertising the projects.
Mr Siame said it is only by delivering and completing such infrastructure that the area will see developments.
