Government Delivers Mortuary Unit at Mbala General Hospital

By Lewis Mwaba

Government through the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has delivered a mortuary unit to Mbala General Hospital.

And Mbala Member of Parliament, Njavwa Simutowe, says the procurement of the mortuary unit for the hospital will help to address the challenges that residents of Mbala were experiencing.

Mr. Simutowe, who is also Luapula Province Minister, says the coming of the equipment will allow the hospital to have a bigger capacity for mortuary services.

ZANIS reports that the Member of Parliament was speaking when he conducted a tour of the mortuary section at Mbala General Hospital.

The lawmaker also officially commissioned the new mortuary unit at the hospital.

And Mbala District Commissioner Jestus Sikazwe, who accompanied the lawmaker, reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing the challenges the hospital is facing.

Mr. Sikazwe says the mortuary will go a long way in helping the institution attend to mortuary services.

He noted that the population of Mbala is growing, hence the need for the hospital to be equipped with the necessary facilities to serve the communities effectively.

And Mbala General Hospital Superintendent, Emmanuel Sibale, thanked the government for the gesture.

Dr Sibale disclosed that the newly procured mortuary unit by ZAMMSA has six compartments compared to the old one, which only had one.

The mortuary unit is among the ten that government recently procured for different hospitals across the country.
