Finance Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane has just announced that the government will recruit a staggering 30,000 teachers in 2022. The figure dwarfs the total number of teachers employed in the past 10 years.

Announcing the 2022 National Budget Friday afternoon, Dr Musokotwane also announced that the government will in 2022 increase Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from the current K1.6 million to 25.7 million per constituency.

The Minister has also banned the importation of desks, saying the local enterprises should be contracted to supply desks to schools.

Parent Teachers Association (PTA), tuition and examination fees will be abolished effective January 2022.

Instead, Dr Musokotwane said the Government will provide increased grants to public and government-supported schools.

Bursaries will be introduced for boarding schools to cover boarding fees and the school boards will determine the beneficiaries of the bursary.

Under health, Dr Musokotwane announced that 11,220 health workers will be recruited and deployed while health staff that have been working without a salary will be placed on government payroll.

The Minister has also revealed that domestic borehole application and registration fees have been scrapped effective January 2022.

The Government will also dismantle all outstanding benefits for public service retirees.

On CDF, Dr Musokotwane said the every constituency was assured of getting the money for development at community level.
